CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Beloit Snappers salvaged the finale of their three-game series with Cedar Rapids, defeating the Kernels 4-3 Monday night.

With the game tied at 3-3 entering the ninth inning, Nick Ward singled with one out and Joseph Pena singled as well to send Ward to third.

Max Schuemann grounded out to third, with Ward scoring the go-ahead run, and Charlie Cerny retired the side in the ninth to secure his eighth save of the season.

The Snappers led 3-0 on the strength of a solo home run by Nick Osborne and RBI's from Schuemann and Ward.

The Kernels bounced back with three runs in the eighth inning against Beloit reliever Joe DeMers (4-3), who would eventually become the winning pitcher when Beloit rallied in the ninth.

Richard Guasch threw four scoreless innings to start the game for the Snappers. He allowed just three hits and one walk while striking out six. In all, Snappers hurlers punched out 13 Kernels.

The Snappers will take the day off Tuesday before heading to Quad Cities to face the River Bandits Wednesday.
