EVANSVILLE, Wis. - The Beloit Memorial soccer team improved to 7-3 with a 5-2 road victory over Evansville Monday evening.
The Purple Knights jumped out to an early lead courtesy of two goals in the first 10 minutes from Johnny Leon and James Castellanos.
The score stayed 2-0 as the teams headed to intermission, but it would take less than 10 minutes into the second half before the Knights scored again, with Bernardo Plascencia finding the back of the net to make it 3-0.
The Blue Devils bounced back with a pair of goals to close the gap to 3-2, but Plascencia scored again, this time on a give-and-go with Omar Munoz, to make it 4-2 in the 66th minute.
Munoz knocked home a penalty kick for the final goal of the evening.
"It was good to be able to come out early and get a few goals to make them chase a little bit," Beloit Memorial coach Brian Denu said. "The boys showed some resliance resilience as Evansville came back into the game and we finished the game off well. Tomas Giles played an excellent game on defense for us and the three-headed scoring monster of Munoz, Plascenia and Leon continued an excellent stretch of soccer."
The Knights are back at it Tuesday with a game at Madison La Follette.
