Jim Franz/Beloit Daily News Snappers SS Max Schuemann tries to turn a DP after forcing out Clinton's Evan Edwards (18) at second Tuesday.

BELOIT - While lightning off to the west put on quite an aerial show for the final few innings Tuesday night, there just wasn't much electricity going on for the Beloit Snappers.

A night after pounding three solo home runs, Beloit managed only five hits - two on the infield - and was shut out 3-0 by Clinton LumberKings right-hander George Soriano.

The Snappers received some quality pitching of their own, but trailed from the second inning on. Chase Cohen (4-8) started his 15th game for Beloit and collected the tough loss. He ended up throwing four strong innings and allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out five.

Bubba Hollins doubled leading off Clinton's second inning and scored on Evan Edwards' single.

The Snappers had a rare chance against Sorinao in the bottom of the inning. John Jones led off with an infield single and was erased at second on a fielder's choice hit by Anthony Churlin. An out later, Max Schuemann's pop fly dropped in center, but Churlin was out trying to take third on the play.

It stayed 1-0 until the eighth inning with reliever Bryce Conley on the mound. He allowed only three hits in five innings of work and just one in the eighth, but Clinton still pushed across two runs. Peyton Burdick walked leading off and Connor Scott blooped a single to send him to third. Hollins scored Burdick with a groundout to second. Conley got another groundout, but Scott scored when he uncorked a wild pitch.

Soriano retired 10 straight Snappers at one point and finished with just one walk and seven strikeouts to lower his ERA to 4.31. Beloit did manage to put two on in the ninth with two outs, but Soriano got Churlin to bounce into a fielder's choice to end the game.

• NOTES: Conley finished with six strikeouts. . Hollins, hitting .325, finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Farrar (.229) had two hits to lead Beloit. ...The Snappers' highest average hitter in the lineup was Jones at .238. Schuemann is at .231 and Foyle at .230.

• UP NEXT: The Snappers host the LumberKings against at 6:30 p.m. today. There will be a 3rd of July Fireworks show following the contest.
