Several Purple Knights advance to sectionals

SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. - Several Beloit Memorial track and field athletes will be moving on to Thursday's WIAA Division 1 sectional meet at Lake Geneva Badger High School.

Junior Shelvin Garrett won the triple jump with a 43-10, while Kobe Chandler came out on top in the 400 with a 50.70. Both of them were members of the Purple Knights' winning 4x400 relay team, which finished with a time of 3:27.71.

Lukas Laun-Smith also had an outstanding regional meet, winning the 110-meter hurdles with a 15.86 and finishing third in the high jump with a 5-10.

Other sectional qualifiers included Tajah Randall in the 400 (the Knights' only female qualifier), the Knights' 4x200 relay team (fourth place), Javier Thomas (fourth place, 300 hurdles), Luis Perez (fourth place, 200), and Rogelio Barrales (fourth place, 1600).

• DIVISION 3 DARLINGTON REGIONAL: The Parkview Vikings sent along 13 athletes to Thursday's Bangor sectional with solid performances Monday night in Darlington.

Selam Cruger was the star for the Vikings Monday. She won the triple jump and qualified in the long jump and both the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Brayden Tracy and James Connell both qualified for sectionals in the 200, while Noah Lutzke won the 800 with a time of 2:08. Lutzke also finished third in the 1600 to advance.

Luke Schwengels advanced in the pole vault, while the 4x100 relay team of Chase Carratt, Connell, Tracy and Charlie Vogt came in first.
