CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - The Beloit Snappers got their road trip off on the wrong foot Thursday when they fell 8-2 to Cedar Rapids.

The Kernels wasted no time jumping all over Beloit starting pitcher Daniel Martinez, scoring four runs against him in the first inning.

The big blow was a two-run triple by David Banuelos that made it 4-0.

The Snappers got back into the game in the fifth inning, scoring on a Cobie Vance sacrifice fly and a Kernels error to make it 4-2.

But Cedar Rapids bounced right back with two runs of its own in the bottom of the inning, then later added a pair of runs in the seventh to make it 8-2.

The Snappers could manage just five hits against Kernels pitching, with Cobie Vance's 12-game hitting streak coming to a close.

Martinez (1-1) took the loss after lasting just an inning.

Jordan Balazovic (2-1) picked up the win after allowing one run in five innings while striking out eight.

The two teams will meet again Friday at 6:35 p.m.
