BELOIT - With many of their players from Beloit and the surrounding area, the Rock County Rage semi-pro football team will play a pair of upcoming games at Beloit Memorial High School's Jacobson Field.
The Rage, who play in the Mid-States Football League, will host the Illinois Cowboys at 6 p.m. Saturday in Beloit. They will also host the Leyden Lions at Jacobson Field on July 21.
Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students kindergarten through 12th grade. Kids wearing youth football jerseys are admitted free if accompanied by a paying adult.
The usual home field for the Rage is at Milton High School, but the track is being redone there, necessitating the home-away-from-home in Beloit.
The Rage were four-time champions in the IAFL, including last season when quarterback Danny Roberts threw three touchdown passes in a 19-6 Iron Bowl Championship win over the Illinois Cowboys.
Rock County has found the going tougher in the MSFL, starting its inaugural season 1-3. After losses to the defending champion Wisconsin Hitmen (19-7), the Door County Destroyers (24-18) and the Chicago Chaos (33-15), the Rage defeated the Milwaukee County Chargers (39-6).
Among the the Rage players are Beloit Memorial products Cordell Dixon, Sheldon Wald, Michael Tubbs, Titus Johnson and Dyshawn Thomas. Former Turner standout Deejay Spencer is another experienced player for the Rage, who are coached by Tim Shaw.
