BELOIT - Jordan Bailey and Mitch Seager set the tone early in the Beloit 19U Legion baseball team's 6-2 victory over visiting Union Grove Tuesday night at Pohlman Field.

Leadoff batter Bailey hammered a towering drive over the right field fence for a home run in the first inning.

The next batter, Seager, followed with a sinking rope into right that Union Grove's right fielder tried to make an ill-advised diving catch on. The ball skipped past him to the fence, allowing the fleet-footed Seager to circle the bases without even a play at the plate.

The back-to-back round trippers wiped out Union Grove's 1-0 lead and Beloit never trailed again, putting up three more runs in the third inning as well as tacking on a single run in the fourth.

Beloit starting pitcher Hunter Waldsmith went the first three innings and picked up the victory. The right-hander allowed just one hit and an unearned run, walking no one and striking out five. Reliever Cory Walker allowed three hits, but no runs, in two innings and Corbin Ovist finished up, allowing a hit and a run in his two innings of work.

Beloit outhit Union Grove 11-5. Bailey was 2-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI. Brandon Niedfeldt was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI and Kade Bohlman was 2-for-4. Sam Nemetz was 1-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Ovist tripled and knocked in a run.
