Purgolders end Knights' season

MADISON, Wis.- The Beloit Memorial Purple Knights saw their season come to a close Friday night in the opening round of the WIAA Division 1 playoffs.

Beloit fell to host Madison East 78-58 to finish the season with a 6-17 record.

The Knights trailed only 36-31 at halftime but were outscored 42-27 in the second half as the Purgolders pulled away for the win.

Earl Lewis led five Madison East players in double figures with 17 points. Bonzy Fair, playing in his final prep game, finished with 16 points, as did Amariah Cook.

Madison East went on to an 81-64 win over Mukwonago Saturday night to capture the regional title.

• ST. MARY'S SPRINGS 72, PARKVIEW 58: The Vikings came up a victory short of a WIAA Division 4 regional title when a strong second half propelled St. Mary's Springs to the win.

Parkview led 33-25 at halftime, but St. Mary's Springs exploded for 47 second-half points while holding the Vikings to just 25.

Eli Hoscheit led the Vikings with 19 points, while Aydon Campbell had 18. Adrian Meza finished with 11 as that trio combined for 48 of Parkview's 58 points.
