JANESVILLE - Down 3-1 heading to the third period, the Rock County Fury charged back for a 4-3 victory over Appleton at the Janesville Ice Arena.
Zoie Steig led the Fury (19-3-2) with a hat trick in the third period.
After Appleton scored the lone goal of the first period, the Fury's Presley Kovacevich tied the game, driving hard to the net and beating a defender to top shelf Appleton goalie Emily Fischer. Appleton, however, answered with two goals before the end of the second period.
"We were not pressuring the puck like we needed to or skating hard to the puck (in the first period)," Fury head coach Luke Steurer said. "The second period we came out a little better, but were not playing up to where we know we can."
That changed in the third period.
"Being down 3-1 we knew we had a lot of work to do, especially with how Appleton was playing," Steurer said. "The girls stepped it up and worked hard to come back. always works hard on the ice no matter what and came up big for us in this game."
Haley Knauf also had two assists for the Fury. Goalie McKaylie Buescher had 27 saves. Appleton's Fischer had 29.
