On Sunday, February 11, 2018, David (George) Tatge was ushered into heaven on the wings of angels after a long battle with kidney disease. David lived his life surrounded by cherished family and friends who loved him dearly, many of whom were by his side when he passed.
Dave was born August 22, 1952 in Chicago, IL, the son of George S. and Virginia M. (Vlazny) Tatge. He was a 1970 graduate of Beloit Catholic High School. Dave attended Milton College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving with Unit 188 General Dispensary, rank SP4. Dave married Mary Elizabeth Wilson on March 3, 1973 in Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was employed by the Beloit Post Office for 25 years, retiring in 2014. Dave was a former DJ at WGEZ.
Dave was funny, kind and generous; at times sensitive, at times outrageous, but always a hardworking and loving father, husband, brother, son and friend. Dave had a great appreciation for the arts. He was an avid reader, a music fanatic, a discerning film critic and a television enthusiast. However, he may be best remembered for listening to his Elvis records at full volume and sharing his passion for professional wrestling (the bloodier the better) with his friends and family. He loved nothing more than eating a Tilly's Pizza, drinking a cold Coke-a-Cola and watching Chicago sports (White Sox forever).
More than that, Dave had a huge heart. He loved his family through thick and thin and worked extremely hard to provide for them his entire life. He also never shied away from embracing people from all walks of life, genuinely befriending and encouraging them.
Dave was the ultimate animal lover, and years ago he started adopting rescue animals. He loved his dogs more than anything, and he is now reunited with those who have passed (Jocko, Sassy, Daisy and Angel). He is very missed by his current fur babies, Emerson and Abby.
Dave certainly faced his fair share of challenges, but he was brave throughout each, persevering until the very end. Ultimately, he knew there was a better place to be and even though his life faded away, his family is glad all over that he is now reunited with Jesus and can experience paradise by the dashboard light for eternity.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Tatge of Clinton, WI; daughter, Rachel Tatge of Verona, WI; son, David Tatge of Sun Prairie, WI; sisters and brothers, Marybeth (Deane) Karstaedt of Beloit, WI, Michael (Jodeen) Tatge of Waukesha, WI, Daniel Tatge of Beloit, WI, George M. Tatge of Osprey, FL, Kenneth (Cindy) Tatge of Beloit, WI, Terese (Bill) Baar of Delavan, WI, and Thomas (Kristine) Tatge of Janesville, WI; many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents.
A memorial service of remembrance for Dave will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Jim Tollar officiating.
