Patricia LaVon Phelps, 85, passed away Friday, January 19, 2018 at Hospice of the Valley's Dobson Home, in Chandler, Arizona, with her family by her side.
Patricia was born in Madison, Wisconsin on July 30, 1932, the daughter of Floyd & Myrtle (Hahn) Kleiner. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1950. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Dean J. Phelps, on December 29, 1951. He preceded her in death on August 27, 2007. Pat and Dean took pride in building their own home together, and they enjoyed traveling, camping and boating. They especially loved being with their family and friends in the various communities in which they lived; Beloit, Edgerton, and Janesville, Wisconsin, and Mesa and Gold Canyon, Arizona. For years, they had a vacation home at Rock River Leisure Estates and a winter home in Arizona. Following their retirements, they ran their own silk flower business, selling their hand-crafted items at outdoor craft shows in Wisconsin during the summer. Patricia particularly loved decorating, gardening and landscaping. Throughout her lifetime, she passed on her many creative talents in these areas. Following high school, Patricia worked as a secretary for the Beloit Public Schools. After having children, she worked from home as a dispatcher for the Turtle Township. Later, Patricia returned to secretarial work for the Beloit College and finally Outboard Marine Corporation, where she retired in December 1988.
Patricia is survived by her daughters, Holly (Marty) Armato of San Tan Valley, Arizona and Karen (Rich) Kinkade of Janesville, Wisconsin and Gold Canyon, Arizona; grandson, Ryan (Blythe) Kinkade and great-grandson, Porter Dean Kinkade of Madison, Wisconsin; sister, Kay Ceman of Janesville, Wisconsin; brother-in-law, Roger Cary of North Carolina; nieces, Jill Kinast of Beloit, Wisconsin, Cindy Korbol of Madison, Wisconsin, Diane Cary of Mt. Holly, North Carolina, and Carole (Tom) Morrissey of Chicago, Illinois.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister Sharry Cary, and father-in-law Louis Dean Phelps and mother-in-law Laurel Phelps.
Patricia was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
