Nellie E. "Nell" Gilbank, age 87, of Clinton, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Willowick Assisted Living in Clinton. Nell was born May 12, 1930 to the late Ray and Elizabeth (Lathers) Cousin in Beloit. She graduated from Beloit High School, Class of 1948. Nell married James A. Gilbank on August 26, 1950. They enjoyed 67 years of marriage until his death on December 15, 2017. Nell worked as a bookkeeper after high school. After her marriage to Jim, she worked alongside her husband in farming and later as they started Gilbank Construction. Jim and Nell had a perfect partnership; Jim had the ideas and depended on Nell to make it happen. She often would get off the tractor to take her kids and their friends to activities. Nell was an active charter member of St. Stephen Catholic Church, Turtle Grange, Turtle Homemakers and the Clinton Historical Society. She enjoyed bowling, card club, traveling, winters in Florida and playing cards & games with friends. Nell was an avid golfer, enjoying her claim to fame as a hole in one recipient.

Nell is survived by her six children, Pat (Ken) Wendtland, Tom (Angie Aumann) Gilbank, Mary (Mark) Peterson, Anne (Dave) Brandl, Gary (Rhonda) Gilbank, Diane (Mark) Herr; twelve grandchildren, Mark (Heidi) Wendtland, Kimberly (Tyree) Gamble, James Gilbank, Macy Peterson, Mitchell Peterson, Andrew (Nicky) Brandl, Craig Brandl, Matt (Dana) Brandl, Kate (Austin DeLong) Brandl, Brian (Amy Everetts) Gilbank, Amanda (Eli Medina) Gilbank and Allison Herr; five great grandchildren, Owen, Maxen, Jack, Jordan and Chloe; sister in law Beverly Cousin and many longtime friends and neighbors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, her daughter Linda, her parents, her brothers, John (Roberta), Bill (Virginia), Fred (Nell) and Raymond, her sisters, Mary (Tex) Papendorf and Helen (Don) Kinyon.

The family would like to thank Josh, Jan and Kim from Home Instead and Fr. Michael Resop for the care they gave our Mom.

Nell's Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday February 3, 2018 at ST. STEPHEN CATHOLIC CHURCH, 716 Shu-Lar Lane, Clinton with Fr. Michael Resop officiating. Friends will be received on Friday at the Brian Mark Funeral Home, 1000 Inman Parkway, Beloit from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and again on Saturday in the Church from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Interment to follow in the Clinton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, all memorials will be donated to St. Stephen Catholic Church, Clinton Outreach and other local charities. Please share a memory or a condolence with the family on our website.
