BELOIT—A Beloit woman faces multiple charges after she allegedly left her two young children unattended for over 12 hours on Sept. 11, according to a Rock County Circuit Court complaint.
Beloit police responded to a welfare check at the intersection of Fir Drive and Burton Street after a witness reported seeing two young children attempting to cross the street without an adult.
An officer took the 2-year-old and 3-year-old into his care and asked the children to show him where they lived. After finding a nearby apartment empty, police attempted to contact the mother of the children.
Police made contact with Shabria S. K. Johnson, 24, who said she had left the children unattended for three hours. But a review of surveillance footage at the apartment complex revealed Johnson had left the children for 13 hours and 40 minutes, the complaint states.
Johnson has been charged with two counts of child neglect of children under the age of six, according to Rock County Circuit Court records..
