SPRINGFIELD—Unemployment rates generally declined in northern Illinois in August, with slight increases in Rockford and Freeport.

Rockford had an unemployment rate of 10.6% in August, up slightly from 10.5% in July, but down from 13.8% in August of 2020, according to figures released by the Illinois Department of Employment Security on Thursday.

Belvidere had an unemployment rate of 9.6% in August, down from 11.2% in July, and down from 10.9% in August of 2020.

Freeport had an unemployment rate of 7.4% in August, up from 6.9% in July, but down from 9.4% in August of 2020.

Winnebago County had an unemployment rate of 8.4% in August, down from 8.7% in July and down from 11.2% in August of 2020.

Boone County had an unemployment rate of 7.4% in August, down from 8.8% in July and down from 9.3% in August of 2020.

Stephenson County had a jobless rate of 5.6% in August, up from 5.2% in July, but down from 7.4% last year.

Ogle County had an unemployment rate of 5.5% in August, unchanged from July, but down from 7.8% in August of 2020.

The statewide unemployment rate was 7.1% in August, up slightly from 7% in July.

The national unemployment rate was 5.2% in August, down from 5.4% in July.
