BELOIT - Winter seems to be arriving early, but that's not stopping the development firm currently working at the future site of a proposed Amazon distribution center in the Gateway Business Park from moving forward.

Atlanta-based Seefried Industrial Properties has worked at the site, slated for an 80-acre parcel southeast of the Colley Road and Gateway Boulevard intersection, since October. Seefried is expected to close on the land transaction by mid-December with the Greater Beloit Economic Development Corporation (GBEDC), according to GBEDC Executive Director Andrew Janke.

At a meeting of the GBEDC Executive Committee on Wednesday, officials authorized an amendment to the development agreement that would allow Seefried to proceed with construction of footings, foundations, on-site utilities and retaining walls prior to the land sale being finalized.

Seefried is a build-to-suit development firm that's associated with Amazon on past projects across the country.

As previously reported by the Beloit Daily News, the Beloit plan calls for a 1 million square foot distribution center and construction is expected to be completed by September 2020.

Total economic impact and job figures for the project have yet to be publicly released, and are not included in the development agreement obtained by the Beloit Daily News. City staff tied to the project have yet to publicly comment on project specifics, citing a non-disclosure agreement until closing on the property.
