Beloit's jobless rate is now 4.2%

MADISON - Beloit's unemployment rate dropped by 1.2% between August and September, but it remained the third highest rate among Wisconsin's 33 largest communities.

Beloit's jobless rate was 4.2% in September, down from 5.4% in August, but up from 2.9% in September of 2018, according to figures released Wednesday by the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development.

Racine had the highest unemployment rate among the largest communities in the state at 5% in September, down from 5.8% in August, but up from 3.9% in September of 2018. Milwaukee had the second highest jobless rate at 4.4% in September, down from 5% in August and up from 3.5% in September of 2018.

Janesville had the sixth highest unemployment rate among the state's largest communities at 3.6% in September, down slightly from 3.7% in August, but up from 2.8% in September of 2018.

Of Wisconsin's 33 largest communities, 32 recorded unemployment rate declines between August and September. Manitowoc's jobless rate remained the same at 3.3% in August and September.

Rock County had an unemployment rate of 3.5% in September, down from 3.9% in August, but up from 2.6% in September of 2018.

Walworth County had an unemployment rate of 2.8% in September, down from 3.2% in August, but up from 2.2% in September of 2018.

Menominee County had the highest unemployment rate among Wisconsin's 72 counties at 9.3% in September, down from 13.4% in August, but up from 4.8% in September of 2018.

Lafayette County had the lowest unemployment rate at 2.1% in September, down from 2.7% in August, but up from 1.7% in September of 2018.

The statewide unemployment rate was 3.2% in September, up from 3.1% in August and up from 3% in September of 2018.

The nationwide unemployment rate was 3.5% in September, down from 3.7% in August and down from 3.7% in September of 2018.
