BELOIT - PGA pro D.A. Points will play a hole of golf with each foursome at the Beloit Health System Foundation Pro-Am set for July 29 at the Beloit Club.
Points, who was born and raised in Pekin, Illinois, became a pro golfer in 1999. He earned his first PGA win at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am in 2011. In 2013 he won the Shell Houston Open. Points won the Illinois State Amateur Championship in 1995, 1998 and 1999. He lost to Tiger Woods in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur tournament in 1996. He attended the University of Illinois where he was third team All-American.
Beloit Health System Foundation Executive Director Lara Hermann said the Pro-Am is the foundation's biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year, the event raised more than $125,000.
This year, proceeds from the event will go to the upgrade and renovation of Beloit Memorial Hospital's Family Care Center, which will be named the Packard Family Care Center since the family of Jim and Nancy Packard recently donated $1 million to the renovation project. The total cost for the project is estimated at $6.5 million. Larger patient rooms, roomier family waiting areas and education areas where birthing and breastfeeding classes can be held are all part of the Family Care Center project.
Hermann said some of the regular features of the Pro-Am will return this year, including the Culver's Putt for Cash with a $10,000 prize awarded to some lucky golfer selected at random if he or she can sink a 60-foot putt. There also will be a hole-in-one competition on the par 3 holes with a $10,000 prize offered by local automotive dealers Bryden Motors, Finley Buick GMC and Bud Weiser Motors. There will be a silent auction featuring a variety of weekend getaway packages, art and other selections. This year, the silent auction also will be featured online so the entire community can bid on items.
There are prizes for the first, second and third place winners; closest to the pin on hole #10; longest drive for men and women; and longest putt on hole 5.
The golf outing will include 24 state golf pros who will be golfing with the amateur golfers in the event. Following the day of golf, dinner will be served. To make a dinner reservation, go to the website at https://beloithealthsystem.org/pro-am-dinner-registration or call 608-363-5724.
Major sponsors for the Pro-Am are First National Bank and Trust, Kerry Inc., Regal Beloit Corp. and TRICOR Insurance.
