TOWN OF BELOIT - A suspect has been identified in an investigation regarding the inappropriate images and video footage of students on Snapchat, Town of Beloit Police Chief Ron Northrop said.
Northrop said the suspect isn't a student at Turner High School. He said a suspect and victim have been identified, who at the time of the incidents were minors but are now adults. Northrop said town police continue to work with the City of Beloit Police Department as well as officials from the School District of Beloit and the Beloit Turner School District.
He said on Thursday morning that he couldn't release any more information at this time as it could impede the investigation.
Sara Millard, director of strategic communications at the City of Beloit, said the investigation is still ongoing, with no arrests made at this time.
The Turner School District sent a letter to families on April 18 stating the district is aware of a Snapchat user who has posted compromising videos and photos of young people. The letter said it was imperative to notify families. The two user names of immediate concern are "beloitfacts" and "beloit.facts101."
School district of Beloit and Turner officials said the situation didn't occur at any school. Concerns were brought to district officials, who in-turn notified police.
School officials encouraged families to reach out to the districts if students or families are in need of support. They also asked parents to make sure parents are staying diligent with their children's social media activity.
