SOUTH BELOIT - The South Beloit City Council approved hiring Larson and Larson Builders to put a new roof on the fire station.
Larson and Larson offered the low bid for the contract. The company will put a pitched metal roof on the fire station at a cost not to exceed $138,260. Only two companies bid on the project.
The council approved hiring Sawyer Kurth as a full-time police officer. Kurth is a resident of the Rockford area and he earned his associates degree in criminal justice from Rock Valley College.
The council also approved the promotion of Andrew Kitson to the rank of lieutenant in the South Beloit Fire Department.
A motion to allow holiday pay for part-time fire department staff also was approved. Fire Chief Mike Davenport said during the holidays, it becomes difficult to staff the fire department. Offering the incentive of holiday pay to part-time staff will help in holiday staffing efforts, he said.
