ROCKFORD - The Winnebago County Board favors an Interstate 39/90 corridor location for a proposed Rockford casino after approving a resolution at Thursday night's meeting.
The board approved the resolution by a vote of 13-5, but did not specify a proposal to support. Currently two proposals have been announced, with a week before the City of Rockford's Aug. 30 deadline for proposals. Proposals are due to the state's gaming board by Oct. 25.
On July 16, Hard Rock International announced plans for a casino and hotel at the site of the former Clock Tower Resort right off of I-39/90. On July 30, The Rock River West Casino Group announced a plan with Wisconsin-based Gorman & Co. that would build a downtown casino near the under-construction Embassy Suites hotel. On Wednesday, the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners voted in favor of supporting the Hard Rock development.
