Two injured in semi/SUV crash on Highway 11

JANESVILLE - Two people were injured when a semi-truck and an SUV collided this morning on East State Highway 11 near Beloit Avenue.

A 30-year-old Janesville man was taken to Mercy Hospital in Janesville with serious but not life-threatening injuries. A 24-year-old man from Gary, Indiana was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in Janesville with minor injuries.

The crash occurred around 5:04 a.m. when the SUV, driven by the Janesville man, was driving east on Highway 11 and attempted to turn north on Beloit Avenue, turning in front of the westbound semi-truck, driven by the man from Gary.

The vehicles collided and the SUV received heavy damage, according to a news release from the Rock County Sheriff's Office. The Janesville man had to be extricated from the SUV.

The driver of the SUV will be receiving citations for operating while suspended and failure to yield right of way.
