Former Roscoe trustee dies in train accident

ROSCOE - Former Roscoe Police Sergeant and village trustee Stan Smith died in a train and pedestrian accident.

On Monday, Nov. 5, the LaSalle County Coroner's Office and LaSalle County Sheriff's Office responded to 4616 E. 17th Road in Leland. They identified the victim as Stanley L. Smith, 55, of Leland.

This is an ongoing investigation with LaSalle County Coroner's Office and LaSalle County Sheriff's Office, according to a press release from the LaSalle County Coroner's Office.

Roscoe Police Chief Jamie Evans said Smith was a former Roscoe Sergeant and village trustee. He is also a former police chief of Kirkland, Illinois who was last working at the Leland Police Department.
