ROCKTON - A woman who apparently attempted suicide was found and transported to a local hospital after she was found by a sheriff's deputy and his trained dog.
The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department was called to the Hononegah Forest Preserve at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday where a man had found his wife's car. He told department personnel that his wife was suicidal.
Deputy Eric Pearson and his K-9 partner, Chico, started the search in the forest preserve after Chico was given a piece of the woman's clothing to get a scent.
The woman was found about a quarter of a mile away from her car in a wooded area. She was unconscious due to an apparent suicide attempt, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.
The woman was taken to Mercyhealth Hospital in Rockford by an ambulance from the Rockton Fire Department.
