NEW YORK - Chef Michael White, a Beloit native, received the City Harvest Award for Commitment during a star studded gala event recently in New York.
White is head chef and owner of the acclaimed Altamarea Group, which has restaurants in New York, New Jersey and Hong Kong.
He joined City Harvest's Food Council in 2009, serving as an ambassador for the organization, helping to raise funds and awareness, and donating food from his restaurants to help feed New Yorkers in need.
City Harvest is New York City's largest food rescue organization. The 2019 City Harvest Gala raised $4.1 million, which is enough to provide over 14 million meals to New Yorkers in need.
