League of Women Voters to host annual meeting

BELOIT - The public is invited to join the Beloit League of Women Voters for their annual meeting at 9 a.m. on April 27 at the Beloit Historical Society, 845 Hackett St., Beloit.

The event speakers will be Dorothy Harrell, president of the NAACP, and Ruth Kolpack, president of Justice Overcoming Borders. Their presentation, titled "Owning the Problem," will cover how Wisconsin has always been recognized as a leader in the labor movement and the struggle for freedom in the United States, however Wisconsin rates number one in the country for incarcerating more African-Americans and Native Americans than any other state.

The doors open at 8:45 a.m. with a breakfast at 9 a.m. The speakers will begin at 9:30 a.m. The cost for the breakfast is $10. To register call 608-364-1023 by April 20. The public is welcome. After the presentation the League will have its business meeting.
