'Schools didn't need this change'

Print Article

Twice recently I have read articles that appeared in the Beloit Daily news appraising the public of two executive staff from the school district who have resigned prior to the end of their tenure and both will continue to be paid due to a "resignation agreement."

Both Dr. Childs and Dr. Williams negotiated reprimands being removed from their files in exchange for being paid for months into the future. Dr. Childs left the district in April and will be paid through July. Dr. Williams left in May and will be paid until December 31. So our board members have negotiated to pay people not to return to work.

I would submit that administration may have felt the intrusion and manipulation from the board such as their demotion of Williams from Assistant Superintendent to Assistant Principal at Fruzen. We are not even sure this is the last such agreement from this board. The question it raised for me was how much are we paying in legal fees? Every policy change, every procedural question, every resignation agreement seems to be discussed with or completed by the board attorney from Milwaukee. I believe that a request to see the amount of money paid in legal fees over the past three years will show a dramatic increase over the past year.

When we had the abrupt departure of three people from the board last year, there was much editorializing about the need for change. Not this change!

A review of executive staff on the new organizational chart reveals the elimination or demotion of every person of color. I would submit that there were others from that old board that also should have resigned. Seven people were elected to this board but I have yet to see seven leaders.
