With the frequency of the mass shootings across our nation it's more important than ever to discuss what course of action is needed in preventing more of the same.
I would like to see as a subscriber a section devoted to this very issue. Let's talk with local police, FBI and get their opinions on how to go forward. Let's print what the Second Amendment says. What constitutes "arms?" What is meant by a "well regulated militia?" Why does regulating guns mean to people that think regulation takes away their right to bear arms if we merely place regulations to what arms should be allowed under the constitution? What really is their fear?
How can we as a people be heard when one of the biggest lobbyist (NRA) is heard over the people our government is supposed to represent? Is this just a mental health issue? I think not. What have other countries done to curb violence? Are their residents allowed to possess arms with restrictions and still feel able to protect home and family?
This nation needs to make this discussion a priority. Our government needs to listen the voices of those it represents (the people) not campaign contributors.
Is the media to blame for feeding into the mentally ill object of celebrity?
I would like to see a tab devoted to this. Please use your First Amendment privilege to inform us as a guide for this discussion.
This form of violence needs to stop.
(We wish we had the answers, and we certainly hope we're not to blame. We appreciate Teri Curtis expressing opinions on the topic, and we encourage others to do the same through our Public Forum. Change takes place when the people engage with each other and their leaders. - WRB)
