This year's primary for the school board for the School District of Beloit is perhaps more important than ever for families and taxpayers. It is critical that we elect individuals who can help to correct much of the dysfunction and bickering that has unfortunately been on display the last few years.
Besides the drama engaged in by some board members and administrators, homeowners were surprised with an almost twenty five percent school property tax increase that could have been avoided with better oversight.
There are several good, conscientious and smart candidates running in the primary February 20.
One of those individuals is Sarah Weiss. I first knew her as a bright and insightful student at BMHS and later as a successful teacher in Milwaukee schools after graduation from Villanova. She is currently working with a highly touted enrichment program, Upward Bound, at Beloit College.
I strongly feel Sarah Weiss has the skills, temperament, maturity and strength to be a knowledgeable and effective board member that we can be proud of.
