ROCKFORD — Wild Ones, a non-profit educational organization that promotes the use of native plants and natural landscaping, will hold its January meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16, in the lower level at Rock Valley College Physical Education Center, 3301 North Mulford Road, Rockford.

The program, How to Grow Prairie Plants from Seeds, Roots and Cuttings, will be presented by Peggy and Bryan Redington who own and operate Country Road Greenhouses (CRG). CRG is a native plant nursery with 11 greenhouses on six acres near Rochelle, Illinois, and two acres of prairie that are currently being expanded to allow for more seed collection.

Peggy, a graduate of Kishwaukee College with an AAS Horticulture degree in greenhouse management and certificates in greenhouse production and garden center management, will describe the basics of growing prairie plants from seeds, roots and cuttings, and creating a vernalization period by sowing seeds and storing them in a cooler for the winter.

The program is free and open to the public. For more information, call
