Oscar Wedel, Beloit, will celebrate his 100th birthday at a luncheon in the St. John’s Lutheran Church basement fellowship room on Feb. 15 (snow date, Feb. 16). Friends are welcome to attend the open house from 1 – 3 p.m.
Oscar was born in Baraboo, Wisconsin, on Feb. 17, 1920, to William and Marie Wedel. He had four sisters and two brothers.
Oscar graduated from high school in Baraboo, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and earned a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. After graduation, he worked for Alliant Energy, first in Portage, WI, and then in Beloit. He and his wife, Mildred, moved to Beloit in 1962, and built the house where they live today.
Oscar and Mildred will celebrate 72 years of marriage in June. They have five children: Linda (Phil) Eberle of Hickory, NC; Greg (Jenny), of Kalamazoo, MI; Ann (Larry) Rubin, of Monona; and Gary (Jean) and Karl (Carrie) Wedel, Beloit. There are sixteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.
