BELOIT - This summer, backpacks filled with school supplies will be available for $5 each to Beloit school children through Beloit Cares and partnering churches and organizations.
There are a limited number of school supplies available. Families will need to register and pay $5 prior to the event. Registration will take place from July 24 to Aug. 10 at Beloit Life Center, 2170 Murphy Woods Road at the following times: 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, 9 a.m. - noon Monday through Thursday and 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Parents/guardians should bring a photo ID along with proof of Beloit residency, such as a utility bill.
Backpacks with supplies will be given out to pre-registered families from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Riverside Park, Jones Pavilion. There will be games and a free lunch. "Snappy D. Turtle" of the Beloit Snappers and volunteers from Caritas, Salvation Army and other organizations will be there. The Beloit Fire Department, Beloit Police Department, Rock County Health Department, Beloit Health System, Community Health System, the Beloit Domestic Abuse Survivor Center and many other organizations will be on hand to talk to families.
United Church of Beloit, Beloit Life Center, Sun Valley Presbyterian, Beloit New Life Church, First Baptist, First Congregational and many other churches and businesses including Bud Weiser Motors, Walmart, Walgreens, River Title Company and the Janesville Athletic Club are working together to assist our community.
