Ruth Inez Adams. Born into this world on December 30, 1929 to Mabel and Louis Metz at their home in Apple River, IL and named Ruth Inez Metz, she took her journey home to be with her savior on Dec. 20, 2012.
Mom was always a lady that had compassion for others throughout her life and loved laughter, especially with family and friends.
The Metz family moved to Rockton, IL where she attended a country school for her first 8 years and graduated from Hononegah High School in Rockton, Il in 1947. In 1948 she married Robert F. Turner, the father of her three children and divorced after many years. After moving to Beloit, WI, she had a brief marriage to Howard Poland. Finally she married her “prince” Arthur B. Adams, of Beloit in 1982. Mom and Arthur traveled extensively to Europe and Florida and entertained often, living a full life and she remained a devoted wife until his passing in 1994. Arthur was everything to mom.
She started working at age 12 at the Wagon Wheel Jr. in Rockton, then through her high School years at Hickies in Rockford, IL, taking the bus back and forth from Rockton after school. She loved to be finely dressed and that income provided for her. Before the birth of her children she became a telephone operator in Rockton, the telephone office in the old fire department building.
Some of her favorite times were with the Beloit State Bank, where she enjoyed her job and fellow employees for 25 years, becoming a manager of one of the small branches. A member of the First Congregational Church in Beloit, WI, she was active on the Church Board of Life and devoted time to the Steeple Shop as well as other church events. She belonged to many clubs. One of her favorites was her Writer’s Group, where they wrote stories and poems and shared them in a published book, “On Writer’s Wings”.
She was a member of Toast Mistress, the Historical Society and another of her favorites, the Fortnightly Group.
The most important people to her were her family, especially her children, Roger Turner, Teresa Turner and Susan Turner. She delighted in their successes and protected them in time of need. Her unconditional love will be with us forever.
