Andy Jorgensen of Fort Atkinson defeated Republican Evan Wynn in the race for the 43rd Assembly District seat Tuesday.
Jorgensen received 9,197 votes in Rock County, 3,670 votes in Walworth County and 1,854 votes in Jefferson County for a total of 14,721 votes. Wynn, of Whitewater, received 6,382 votes in Rock County, 2,879 votes in Walworth County and 2,029 votes in Jefferson County for a total of 11,290 votes.
Jorgensen has served three terms in the Wisconsin Assembly. He first was elected to the 37th Assembly District in 2006. However, because of redistricting, his district was split four ways so he had to decide which district to run for to continue serving in the state Assembly. He chose the 43rd Assembly District saying he is most familiar with the area. He worked at the General Motors Assembly Plant in Janesville and was a radio personality that was heard in Rock and Walworth counties.
Wynn was elected to the 43rd Assembly District in 2010. He served in the U.S. Marines Reserve and the U.S. Army.
Calls made by the Beloit Daily News to both Jorgensen and Wynn were not returned Tuesday evening and this morning.
