SANTA FE, N.M. — Beloit native Kathy Piccione, an artist working in the Sante Fe and Albuquerque region, is donating $6,000 in proceeds from the sale of one of her paintings to help a grieving family. Ashlynn Mike was just 11 years old when she was kidnapped and killed earlier this year. The girl was slain May 2 on Navajo Nation land in New Mexico.
The 30-by-40 inch oil painting is called “Never Forgotten,” Piccione said, and features a Native American girl in traditional clothing. An Arkansas woman purchased the painting, according to information posted by KOAT 7 news in Albuquerque. Piccione told the station she had begun the painting before Ashlynne was abducted and slain, and she believes she was moved to create it as a remembrance for the girl.
