Beloit Public Library and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will offer a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), a free four-week learning experience that investigates the impact of forests on humans. The non-credit MOOC will help participants discover how forests affect global climate and how forest ecosystems support human life. It will also explore threats to those ecosystems.
“Forests and Humans: From the Midwest to Madagascar” begins Sept. 30. All learners are welcome to participate. For more information, or to sign up, visit moocs.wisc.edu or stop at the library for help.
The library, 605 Eclipse Blvd., will offer weekly group discussion meetings to further understanding of the topic. Discussions will take place at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, Oct. 6, 13, 20 and 27 in the public meeting room. At 6 p.m., prior to each discussion, the weekly videos will be shown for those who have not viewed them on their home computers or who wish to see them on a big screen. The library also offers public computers to anyone with a library card who lacks computer access. For more information on library discussions and computer use, call 608-364-2905.
