Shirley Ruth (Marshall) Engle, 86, of Janesville, WI, passed away on Valentine’s Day at St. Elizabeth Manor in Footville, WI surrounded by her sweetheart, Frank, and the rest of her family.
She was born on May 23, 1929 in Longview, Washington, the beloved only child of Ross and Ruth (Ulven) Marshall. Shirley grew up in Beloit, WI. She played the violin in Beloit High School orchestra and graduated in the class of 1947. Shirley’s first job after high school was at Beloit Hosiery Company where she used her strong business skills, including typing and shorthand, at which she excelled in high school. Shirley was later employed by Job Service retiring after 29 years of service.
Shirley married the love of her life, Frank Joseph Engle, on July 3, 1970 at Central Christian Church in Beloit. They had met through mutual friends, Dick and Pat Ellis (deceased). Together, Shirley and Frank raised her two daughters from a previous marriage.
Shirley enjoyed family times, eating out, shopping, crossword puzzles (the more complex, the better), travel, Las Vegas shows, casinos and music.
She is survived by her husband, Frank; her two daughters, Diane (Richard) Miller of Janesville, WI, and Donna (Dennis) Retzlaff of Omro. WI; five grandchildren, Jason (Kimberly) Miller, of Brookfield, WI, Laura (Eric) Larson of Boston, MA, Joanna (Travis) Neuman of Omro, WI, Christina (Ben) Giese of De Pere, WI, and Daniel Retzlaff of Menasha, WI; two great-grandchildren, Scott and Tyler Miller, and two more expected this spring; she is further survived by cousins.
She is predeceased by her parents, aunts and uncles, and several cousins.

Funeral service for Shirley will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2016 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, with Pastor Jon Grice officiating. Burial will be in Floral Lawn Cemetery, South Beloit, IL. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service Thursday in the funeral home.
