Local racers continue success at track

OREGON, Wis. - Robert Hansberry Jr. of Beloit wrapped up a track championship at Madison International Speedway Friday.

Hansberry capped off his season by winning a 15-lap feature in the Sportsman division. The 2018 track champion posted his fifth title at MIS. His previous titles were in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017. He also posted his 24th career feature win on the track.

He nearly posted his 25th, but had to settle for second in the other 15-lap feature as Gary Hellenbrand held him off.

In other divisions, Zack Riddle of Oregon, Wis. (Late Models) and Nick Schmidt of Watertown, Wis. (Bandits) were also crowned season champions.

On the final night, Riddle and Steve Carlson (Late Models), Steve Dickson and Schmidt (Bandits), Jim Ronspiez (6Shooters), and Ken Hutchens and Pat Echlin (Vintage Cars) took home feature wins.

• UP NEXT: The MIS weekly racing program ended. It will host the One on One Street Drags/Shine n Show Contest Thursday. There will be 20 divisions of bracket racing on its 300-foot dragstrip. Cost per bracket is $10. Pit gates open at 6 with practice/grudge racing at 6:30 and bracket races at 7:30. Grandstand admission and pit passes are $10.
