BRODHEAD, Wis. - The Brodhead Cardinals placed second in their own Brodhead Invitational held Saturday.

Beoit Turner placed fourth, with Lake Mills coming out on top after defeating the Cardinals 25-19, 25-20 in the finals.

Turner defeated Evansville before losing to Brodhead in the second round. The Trojans then lost to Belleville in the third place game.

Brodhead, which finished 4-1, was led by Abbey Johnson, who finished the day with 80 kills, 61 assists, 32 digs and eight aces.

• CROSS COUNTRY: The Hononegah girls cross country team had a solid day at the First to the Finish race in Peoria, placing eighth in the highly competitive field. The Indians were led by senior Alicia Repka, who ran an 18:15 in the three-mile race to place 35th. Taylor Frommer was next (18:34, 52nd), while Lauren Johnston ((18:54, 52nd), and Katie Johnston (19:03, 77th) also recorded top 100 finishes.
