Snappers strike early, beat Chiefs

PEORIA, Ill. - The Beloit Snappers made it two in a row on the road Wednesday night as they defeated the Peoria Chiefs 4-3.

The majority of Beloit's offense came early as the Snappers struck for three runs in the first inning. Logan Farrar's sacrifice fly plated Mickey McDonald, and Jesus Lopez and Jack Meggs later added RBI hits in the frame to stake Beloit starting pitcher Bryce Conley to a 3-0 lead.

The Chiefs struck right back against Conley in the bottom of the inning, scoring twice to cut the deficit to 3-2. A Scott Hurst single plated the tying run for Peoria in the third.

The game's only run after the third inning came by virtue of a Peoria mistake. Jack Meggs reached on an error by Chiefs third baseman Elehuris Montero, allowing Trace Loehr to score in the fifth. Both teams were held scoreless in the game's final four frames.

Conley only lasted 2 2-3 innings while allowing three runs and striking out six Chiefs. Joshua Reagan (1-3) picked up the win after allowing no runs on two hits in 1 1-3 innings out of the bullpen.

Earning the non-traditional save was Ivan Andueza, who pitched the final five innings and allowed just three hits and no walks while striking out three. Lopez and Meggs paced the Snappers' nine-hit attack with two each.

The Snappers and Chiefs will meet in the finale of their three-game series Thursday at 7 p.m.
