PEORIA, Ill. - The Beloit Snappers took home a victory in the opener of a three-game series against Peoria Tuesday night, beating the Chiefs 6-3.
The Snappers banged out 11 hits and took advantage of three Peoria errors while playing a flawless defensive game.
After starting pitcher Mitchell Jordan allowed a first-inning run, the Snappers bounced back with a pair of tallies in the third inning. Trace Loehr doubled home Mickey McDonald, and Austin Beck's single chased Loehr home to vault Beloit in front.
Loehr struck again in the fourth, as his sacrifice fly scored JaVon Shelby to make it 3-1. The Chiefs scored a run in the fourth and another in the fifth against Jordan to tie the game at 3-3.
Loehr had his third critical at-bat in the game in the sixth inning, this time singling home Shelby and Nick Allen to allow Beloit to retake the advantage.
Beloit scored an insurance run in the ninth, with Loehr again involved. The Snappers second baseman reached on an error by Peoria second baseman Irving Lopez, allowing McDonald to score to account for the final 6-3 score.
Jordan went 4 2-3 innings and allowed three runs, while Heath Bowers (4-2) struck out three of the four batters he faced to record the win.
Seth Martinez pitched a routine ninth inning including a strikeout to record his eighth save of the season.
