KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Beloit College softball team squandered a 7-3 lead, dropping a 9-8 game to Wheaten (Mass.) in nine innings Sunday in the Sunkissed Games.

Washington College then flattened the Buccaneers, 16-1, in a shortened game.

In the first game, Beloit put up six runs in the bottom of the second inning. Dani Strejc had a leadoff single, moved to second on a passed ball and Josie Guernsey followed with a walk. Emily Stapay singled to score Strejc and put runners on the corners. Madi Christine singled through the right side to tally a RBI.

The final four runs of the inning came with two outs. A passed ball moved up the runners and Ashley Lambert's double to right field scored two. Alyssa Morris followed with a single and Emily Malarski made it three consecutive hits with a triple to left center that plated two more giving the Bucs a 6-0 lead after two innings.

The Lyons countered with two runs in the top half of the third, but Beloit's Kaity Grzeszkiewicz homered to left to make it 7-3 Beloit.

The Lyonsrallied with three runs in the fifth, one in the sixth and another in the seventh to force extra innings.

Capitalizing on the international tie breaker implemented in extra innings, the teams traded runs in the eighth inning. Wheaton plated another run in the top of the ninth. The Bucs threatened in their half of the inning, but were unable to score the tying run.

Beloit tallied 12 hits with multiple hits off the bats of Christine, Bree Swanson and Alyssa Boltik.

Boltik went the distance in the circle allowing just one earned run in nine innings on the mound.

• Boltik singled and scored Beloit's lone run in the first inning of game two, Washington finished off the 16-1 win in five innings.

Beloit will face Skidmore and Haverford Monday at 3:45 and 6 p.m., respectively.
