Buccaneers find range against IC

JACKSONVILLE, Ill. - Beloit College converted 19-of-31 second half shots, including 8-of-10 3-pointers to pull away from host Illinois College, 82-58, in Midwest Conference men's basketball action.

The Buccaneers (4-18, 3-12 MWC) led 33-23 in the first half and went on to outscore the Blueboys 49-35 in the second half.

Beloit had a well-balanced effort with four players scoring in double figures. Freshman Nathaniel Shead led the way with 18 points, converting 7-of-13 shots, including 4-of-6 free throws.

Tristan Shoup was 7-of-12 from the field for 16 points and added eight rebounds. Andrew Walters also scored 16 points, hitting 8-of-11 shots and grabbing nine boards. Sophomore Mason Jones pulled off a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

The Bucs are back in action Saturday at Flood Arena when they host Knox College at 1 p.m.

• WOMEN'S BASKETBALL - ILLINOIS COLLEGE 73, BELOIT COLLEGE 58: Brielle Greenleafvscored 22 points and Shannen Quehl added 21 to lead the host Blue Belles past the Buccaneers (3-18, 1-13 MWC).

IC (8-14, 6-7) took a 17-7 lead after one quarter, but the Bucs outscored the Belles 16-13 in the second quarter and 23-21 in the third.

The Belles pulled away by outscoring the Bucs 22-12 in the fourth.

Shelby Kline had 17 points and eight rebounds for the Bucs. Melissa McLead had 14 points, Kelly McLean had 10 points and Candace Cunningham had 14 rebounds and 10 points for a double-double.

The Bucs shot only 38.7 percent while IC shot 44.1. The Belles also converted 20-of-29 ree throws while the Bucs were just 6-of-11.

The Bucs host Knox at 3 p.m. Saturday.
