GRINNELL, Iowa - Beloit College swept the men's and women's Midwest Conference Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week awards. Freshman Eva Laun-Smith earned her third award in four weeks while junior Jose Gutierrez won the men's award.

Both Laun-Smith and Gutierrez are Beloit Memorial graduates.

Laun-smith broke two school records at the University of Chicago Windy City Rumble. Her time of 9.11 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles was a new school record and was good for first place. She also set another record in the triple jump with a leap of 38 1/4 inches, a mark good for eighth nationally. Both rank as the top marks in the MWC. In the long jump, Laun-Smith finished second with a leap of 17-1.25.

Beloit's Lena Ramsey was credited with a notable performance by the MWC. She finished fourth in the women's triple jump at U-Chicago with a jump of 35-6.5, which is currently the fourth-best in the MWC. She sits in sixth in the MWC in the long jump with a mark of 16-6.

Gutierrez tied his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.49) at the University of Chicago Windy City Rumble. That time is tops in the conference. The junior also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash (52.47), which is good for 10th in the league.
