Knights play Bluebirds in WIAA opener

BElOIT - Beloit Memorial's boys hockey team will face back-to-back games with Janesville Craig, wrapping up the regular season this Saturday night and then opening WIAA postseason action on Feb. 15.

Saturday's 7 p.m. game will be at the Janesville Ice Arena.

Next Thursday, the fifth-seeded Purple Knights will meet the fourth-seeded Bluebirds with their playoff survival at stake.

After a six-game skid in which injuries and illness took their toll, the Knights (7-13-3) have won four of their past five games, including a 4-3 overtime win over Greendale on Saturday. Casper Clark scored twice in the victory.

The Knights play West Bend at the Kettle Moraine Ice Center at 5:30 tonight,

• FURY TOP SEEDED: The top-seeded Rock County Fury (18-3-2) girls hockey team will be in action in WIAA play on Feb. 16. They will host the No. 8 Mauston co-op at the Janesville Ice Arena at 7 p.m.

The Fury wrap up regular season action this Saturday when they host Appleton United at 7:30 p.m. at the Janesville Ice Arena. It will be girls youth hockey night. Girls 14 and under get in free and can come on the ice for starting lineups. They can also stay after the game for a free open skate with the Fury.

Maggy Henschler leads the Fury with 48 points (26 goals, 22 assists), followed by Dani Heitsman (30), Zoie Steig (23) and Anika Einbeck (20). Goalie McKaylie Buescher has 11 saves.
