Laun-Smith continues record-setting pace

CHICAGO - Another meet and two more records fell to Beloit College freshman Eva Laun-Smith Saturday.

The Beloit Memorial High School graduate won the triple jump and set a a new school record with a jump of 38-0.29 in the University of Chicago Windy City Invitational.

Laun-Smith also broke her own record in the 60 meters with her time of 9.11 seconds, which was good enough for seconds place. She also was second in the long jump.

In the trip jump, the Bucs were first (Laun-Smith), second (Lena Ramsey) and fourth (Aleeshaw Heinzen).

Beloit's men were led by juniors Joe Gutierrez and Dan Arkes.

Gutierrez was second in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.49 seconds which tied the school record he set last season. Arkes finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:55.97. Junior Ethan Harycki picked up a seventh place in the weight throw with a toss of 12.85 meters. Freshman Fernando Castillo placed eighth in the 200 meters with a time of 23.60.

The Bucs will be back on the track at the UW-Platteville on Saturday at 11 a.m.
