RIPON, Wis. - Beloit College's Buccaneers shot better from the 3-point line than they did anywhere else Wednesday night.
Considering they shot only 35 percent on their treys, that wasn't exactly great news.
While Beloit hit just 32.8 overall (20-61), the Ripon Red Hawks converted at a 48.1 percent clip (25-52) in a 73-60 Midwest Conference victory at Welske Gymnasium.
Beloit managed to stay close through much of the game because it outrebounded the Red Hawks by a wide margin. Ripon jumped out to a 7-0 lead, but its biggest first-half lead was eight points. The Bucs cut the deficit to a single basket before settling for a 34-29 margin at halftime.
It helped that the Bucs outrebounded the Red Hawks 24-15 in the first half.
Scoreless at the half, Beloit's Tristan Shoup put up 14 points in the seconds half and also chipped in six rebounds. The Bucs had two other double-figure scorers - Carlton Henning and Cody Risseeuw with 12 points apiece.
Cal Schultz led Ripon with 25 points.
The Bucs (1-6, 0-4) will return home to Flood Arena to face the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater (6-0) at 7 p.m. on Dec. 13.
