Fury romps, Knights fall

LAKE DELTON, Wis. - The Rock County Fury bounced back from a tough 4-3 loss to University School of Milwaukee on Tuesday by thumping the Badger Lightning, 9-0, in their Badger Conference opener Thursday night.

The Fury scored four times in each of the first two periods at Poppy Waterman Ice Arena and cruised to their fourth victory.

Anika Einbeck scored 2 minutes and 57 seconds into the contest to give the Fury all the scoring they needed. Winning goalie McKaylie Buescher had 11 saves for the shutout.

The Fury, who outshot the Lightning 41-11, didn't stop there. They got goals from Zoie Steig, Ally Burke and Dani Heitsman before the end of the first period.

The second period saw Steig and Heitsman added their second goals while sisters Haley and Alyssa Knauf also got into the act.

The lone goal of the third period was by Maggy Henschler.

• VERONA 6, BELOIT MEMORIAL 0: The Wildcats scored four goals in the first period and cruised to a shutout win over the Purple Knights Thursday at Edwards Ice Arena.

After a scoreless second period, Verona scored twice more in the third to close the game.

Beloit Memorial will be back in action Tuesday at Sun Prairie.
