Brodhead girls start by routing Monticello

BRODHEAD, Wis. - The Brodhead Cardinals got their season off to a terrific start Tuesday when they whipped visiting Monticello 55-38.

Senior Erin Nyhus led the offensive attack with 15 points including three three-pointers, while Brooke Bescup added nine points.

Brodhead dominated the first half, taking a 36-8 advantage into intermission.

The Cards will be back at home Friday to welcome in Big Foot in the Rock Valley Conference opener.

• MILTON 65, BIG FOOT 62: The visiting Chiefs rallied from a 13-point deficit to take a brief second-half lead, but couldn't close the deal against the Red Hawks.

Sophomore Reagan Courier led the Chiefs with 20 points, 18 coming in a strong second half for Big Foot. Courtney Schoenbeck added 16 points while Payton Courier added eight.

The Chiefs trailed 36-25 at the break, but eventually went on an 8-2 run down the stretch to take a one-point lead. Kelly Harbort hit a shot to put the Red Hawks up for good with 1:21 to play.

Big Foot will travel to Brodhead Friday night.

• ALBANY 50, PARKVIEW 38: The Vikings started their season with a tough road loss, falling to Albany by 12. Taylor Burrell had 15 points and eight rebounds, while Amber Hudson added 11.

Parkview will host Argyle Thursday night.
