Friday - Police say they’re hot on the trail of vandals who hurled stones through the windows of the Gaston, Dowd and Berlin machine shops Thursday. . . . “Jimmie” Menhall left Milwaukee at the same time the St. Paul road’s afternoon train left for Beloit; Menhall was driving a Samson car and accompanied by John Murphy and Harry Stanton; they beat the train to Beloit by about three minutes. . . . Janesville police have launched a campaign aimed at ending “street mashing” by young men and women in the wake of the murder of a young woman who was assaulted and fatally beaten by two young men.

Thursday - The first jury has been drawn for the first case in Rock County Court, Branch 4, which will handle cases in Beloit, with Mark Farnum the presiding judge. . . . Newly elected senior class officers at Beloit Memorial High School are William Anderson, president; David Crow, vice president; and Sue Holloway, secretary-treasurer. . . . The Rev. Thorley Johnson of Beloit bagged a rare albino goose at the Horicon Marsh.

Friday - Roscoe’s village board has voted against the extension of Perryville Road through the village to connect with the Wisconsin state line. . . . Roscoe Police Chief Anthony Piccirilli has resigned just a week after being reinstated by the village board after a suspension for unspecified reasons. . . . The Turtle Township Fire Department is readying plans to combine two fire stations into a single facility on East Creek Road. . . . Riverside Terrace, operated by Beloit Memorial Hospital, plans to add 21 apartments to the residential care complex to meet demands for senior living options. . . . Clinton swept both ends of a Rock Valley Conference triple dual cross country meet at Turner; Desiree Toldt and Sarah Boaz of Palmyra challenged Clinton’s Dedra Mueller and Christine Mueller and others to earn the win for the Cougars.
