Darrel Wayne Gunnink, 65, of Clinton, WI, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 4, 2012 in Don & Marilyn Anderson Agrace HospiceCare Center, Fitchburg, WI after a long battle with cancer.

Darrel was born August 6, 1946 in Beloit, WI, the son of Harold and Bernice (Risseeuw) Gunnink. He was a 1964 graduate of Clinton High School. Darrel was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 and served in Vietnam. He married Susan Schrandt on August 13, 1966 in Christ Lutheran Church, Clinton, WI.

Darrel was employed as a bricklayer for several years, and also had a mason business of his own. He was a farmer at heart and has been farming with his wife and sons in the Clinton area for the last 30 years. Darrel was an active member at Emanuel Reformed Church for many years where he taught Sunday school and served on the board. He most recently attended Central Christian Church, Beloit, WI where he was very active in the church’s missions to Kentucky, working on building projects for the church and weekly get togethers with the bible study group. Darrel’s lifelong passion was working on the farm with his family, working on machinery for himself and neighbors, as well as playing with his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by so many of his family and friends, and his little dog, Bo.

Darrel is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Gunnink of Clinton, WI: three sons, Delmar and his three daughters, Olivia, Trista, and Jenna of Clinton, WI; Jerod (Jessica) and their daughter, Ember of Rockton, IL; and Russel (Lisa), their daughter, Jordan and son, Lelan of Silvis, IL: brothers, Norman (Arlene), Melvin (Robin), Curtis (Abbe), and Jeff (Bree): sisters, Carol (Duane) Pansegrau, Lanette (Dave) Tebeest, Ladonna (Tom) Sonntag, Kathy (Bruce) Bawlda, Dianne (Mark) Kastein, and Sherry (Craig) Laper: many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two nephews, and one nephew-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, 2012 in Central Christian Church, 2460 Milwaukee Rd., Beloit, WI with Pastor David Meding officiating. Burial will be in Clinton Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI.
